Being the Church in action - 2005
A six-part study programme studying the Church in a time
of change. The starting points were:
- Faith is made real - enacted - in what we do as Christians. The
Church is the sum of such actions.
- Enacted faith is not a matter of knowing what we believe and putting it
into practice. Enacted faith is a constant struggle - a fight against
other visions of faith, against the secular world, against our own weakness
and wrong-doing.
- Thus faith is always particular, local, personal. It is made real in
our small face-to-face communities.
- Christian faith is also the authentic participation in the story of the
Church going back to Jesus and the first apostles.
[See
Unity and Diversity - an Order for a Prayer Meeting in the Week of Prayer
for Christian Unity.]
- To be the Church in action is to hold these together - continuity with the
past and continuous struggle today. How can we act authentically?
