Current Faculty Applications

Notes:

The faculty process is the ecclesiastical alternative to planning permission.

The stages in the process (in brief) are:

  • The Church Council agrees to certain changes affecting the furniture or fabric of church property.
  • Application is made to the Diocesan Advisory Committee who advise on the merits of the application, and may recommend certain conditions (for example, the oversight of an archaeologist or writing to request advice from other bodies).
  • A citation is posted at the church.  This sets out what work is proposed - and how to object if you disagree with the proposals.

If you wish to object to any of the proposals in a faculty application you should write, giving reasons for your objection, to the Diocesan Registrar, Dunham House, Westgate, Southwell, Nottinghamshire  NG25 0JL so that it arrives before the stated date.

  • A petition is made to the Diocesan Registrar (the Diocese's law officer).

  • A faculty is issued (or not).  This gives permission for work to proceed, usually within a certain time, and often with conditions.
  • The work is completed and notice of completion is sent to the Diocesan Advisory Committee.

Information on any of these faculty applications - and at any stage in the process - is available from     at Ordsall Rectory.  Contact by email - or full contact details here.
